Sustainable products, but… what about the packaging?
There are an increasing number of companies that market products classified as sustainable, that is, manufactured using non-polluting processes and with materials that are environmentally friendly. Oftentimes, though, this very product that we purchased as sustainable comes with packaging that does not meet the same sustainability criteria and is instead packaged in endless plastic that is of dubious origin. This causes reasonable doubts among consumers about the real impact of sustainable products.
Fortunately, companies are increasingly aware of the importance of sustainable packaging beyond production processes and materials. A good example of this is IKEA’s goal of progressively eliminating all plastic from its packaging until eliminating it completely by 2028.
At Pasqual Arnella, we are also aware that there is no point in manufacturing mannequins using recycled paper if the same sustainability criterion is not applied at every point in the process. This includes the origin of the material, the process of energy saving and, of course, the packaging. For this reason, we pack all our mannequins in cardboard boxes and protect them via reusable cotton bags and we use materials manufactured by local suppliers, thus minimizing our carbon footprint.
For example, the cardboard boxes we use are FSC® certified and are made of 84% recycled and 100% recyclable cardboard. This chain of custody certification guarantees that FSC®-certified materials and products have been verified at all stages of the process and that they have been made with forest-based materials that come from sustainable forest management.
For the padding of the boxes that protect the dummies, we use 100% recyclable packing paper, which is a much more sustainable option than the traditional alternatives of bubble wrap or polystyrene foam which are highly polluting petrochemical materials.
Moreover, the cotton bags in which we store our mannequins are made of reusable cotton and composed of 100% cotton vegetable fibre of natural origin. These are resistant and quality bags with an adjustable string on the large pieces and which can be reused for any other purpose.
In the case of the transparent film for the packaging of pallets, we make sure that it is 100% biodegradable. We also use an accelerated action Bio-V film that guarantees the almost total integration of its particles in the natural environment once its life cycle has ended. This represents an evolution of conventional biodegradable plastics which is much faster and more efficient in its decomposition process.
At Pasqual Arnella, we are not only responsible when it comes to our production. We also try to ensure that our suppliers are local and also follow sustainability criteria in their production and have certifications such as ISO 14001:2015 (Environmental Policy), FSC® or CO2zero. Together, we can make a difference!
