Paper paste heads: A canvas for The Awakening of the Myth: Gala Dalí

14 May 2025

At Pasqual Arnella, we have been dedicated to crafting paper paste products for over a century. As a family-run business with deep roots in both craftsmanship and innovation, every piece we create reflects our commitment to design, functionality, and respect for the environment.

That’s why, when we were invited to take part in the exhibition The Awakening of the Myth: Gala Dalí at Púbol Castle, we felt it was the perfect opportunity to contribute our expertise to a showcase that brings together fashion, history, and art. On this occasion, our distinctive “Egg”-style display heads were chosen to present iconic accessories—allowing each piece to shine in all its splendour.

A minimalist design created to let the piece shine

Our “Egg”-style display head is no accident of form. Its smooth, faceless, oval shape is purposefully designed to serve as the ideal support, allowing accessories to take center stage. With no features to distract the eye, headpieces, tiaras or hats draw full attention—highlighting their details, textures and volumes. This simplicity is precisely its strength: a balance of neutrality and elegance that suits any exhibition setting, bringing a refined and sophisticated touch.

All our display heads are made using recycled paper paste. Our dedication to sustainability and artisanal production is evident in every item, crafted from 100% recyclable materials through processes inspired by the principles of the circular economy. In this way, we not only deliver an environmentally conscious product but also promote a responsible and efficient model of production. The understated elegance of the white finish enhances the historical accessories and headpieces on display, allowing them to stand out without distraction.

A perfect support for iconic pieces

In this exhibition, our mannequins serve as the foundation for displaying some of the most emblematic accessories from Gala Dalí’s collection, including a 1930s tiara by Suzanne Rémy and a 1970s necklace inspired by ancient Greece. These pieces, rich in history and symbolism, find in our “Egg”-style display heads a neutral and sophisticated support that allows every detail of their design and craftsmanship to be fully appreciated.

Moreover, the exhibition features five photographs by renowned artists such as Horst P. Horst, Robert Descharnes, and Marc Lacroix, which capture the essence of Gala as a fashion icon. The selection of images reinforces the significance of accessories in shaping her visual identity, an aspect in which our pieces play a crucial role by providing a harmonious and elegant presentation.

The importance of detail in a unique exhibition

The exhibition design, created by Pep Canaleta of 3carme33, focuses on the harmony between the space, the pieces, and their supports. The choice of our mannequins is no coincidence: their minimalist yet distinctive design perfectly complements the aesthetic of the exhibition, where art and fashion intertwine to tell the story of a woman who knew how to build her own myth.

Thanks to this collaboration, we reaffirm our role as a leader in the creation of sustainable and customised mannequins, display heads, and other exhibition pieces, demonstrating that craftsmanship and innovation can go hand in hand in culturally significant projects. Our display heads have been used in various prestigious exhibitions and windows, becoming a go-to option for museums, designers, and fashion brands seeking a balance between aesthetics, functionality, and environmental responsibility.

The exhibition The Awakening of the Myth: Gala Dalí will be open until 7th January 2026 at the Gala Dalí Castle in Púbol. A unique opportunity to discover the fascinating relationship between fashion, art, and the identity of one of the most enigmatic figures of the 20th century, with the added value of an exhibition production that champions sustainability and quality craftsmanship.
