Amazigh Jewellery: A Glimpse into Culture and Beauty

15 July 2024

The“Amazigh Jewellery” exhibition, organised by the El Legado andalusí Foundation in Granada, is a celebration of the cultural and artistic heritage of the Berber peoples. These communities have inhabited North Africa since ancient times, ranging from the Siwa Oasis in Egypt to the Atlantic Ocean, and from the Mediterranean coast to the Sahara Desert.

The exhibition features nearly 200 unique pieces of jewellery from regions such as Libya, Tunisia, Algeria and Morocco, highlighting diadems, necklaces and other adornments that not only embellish, but also serve as cultural and protective symbols. Divided into two sections, the collection presents scholarly studies on Amazigh history and a detailed gallery of jewellery, each piece accompanied by its ethical and artistic context.

  • Visitors can appreciate the diversity and beauty of the jewellery, which represents centuries of tradition and creativity.

Torso Model ‘Shasta’

For this exhibition, our ‘Shasta’ model torsos have been used, a classic and timeless design reminiscent of traditional couture mannequins. It was specially modified for this exhibition by cutting off the lower part of the torso and painting it black.

This modification provides an elegant contrast that highlights the exhibited jewellery, allowing each piece to shine on its own. The choice of these busts is not a coincidence; their design and presentation perfectly complement the sophistication and detail of the Amazigh jewellery.

Customisation and Adaptability

At Pasqual Arnella, we are known for our sustainable mannequins made from recycled paper pulp. This material allows for great customisation and adaptability, challenges that are also easily managed due to the flexibility of our manufacturing process. Having all production stages under one roof, from initial design to final product, we can oversee and adjust each aspect of the process. This allows us to offer exceptional flexibility and ensure quality control on all our products. This holistic approach distinguishes us and guarantees that we can quickly adapt to our clients’ needs. Paper paste has its limitations when it comes to creating specific shapes or poses. However, it has the advantage of being able to be trimmed and adjusted as desired.

This is exemplified not only in the “Amazigh Jewellery” exhibition but also in other events such as “Som Aquí”. The versatility of paperpaste allows us to showcase a perfect combination of design, innovation, and sustainability in the curation of exhibitions.

The legacy continues

Pasqual Arnella’s participation in the “Amazigh Jewellery” highlights not only its commitment to cultural preservation through innovative design of displays but also its contribution to sustainability in the world of art and fashion. This collaboration underlines the importance of merging tradition and innovation to celebrate and preserve the rich cultural heritage of the Berber peoples.
